Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
    Select individuals aged 65 or older using the AGEP column with the condition AGEP >= 65.
  2. 2
    Derive race categories from the RAC1P and HISP columns according to specified conditions to classify respondents into Asian Only, Black or African American Only, Hispanic or Latino (Any Race), White Only, Other Single Race, and Multiple Races.
  3. 3
    Derive income groups from the RETP and SSP columns to classify respondents into Retirement Income Only, Social Security Income Only, Both Retirement and Social Security Income, and Neither Retirement nor Social Security Income based on their values.
  4. 4
    Apply the survey weight from the PWGTP column to all records to ensure representativeness.
  5. 5
    Aggregate weighted counts by race categories and income groups to calculate the share of adults aged 65 or older with retirement and/or social security income by race and ethnicity.
  6. 6
    Present the results in a stacked bar chart format showing the distribution of income groups within each race category.
