Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
    Filter the dataset to include only individuals aged 65 or older using the column AGEP.
  2. 2
    Derive income group categories from the columns RETP and SSP as follows: Retirement Income Only if RETP > 0 and SSP = 0; Social Security Income Only if RETP = 0 and SSP > 0; Both Retirement and Social Security Income if RETP > 0 and SSP > 0; Neither Retirement nor Social Security Income if RETP = 0 and SSP = 0.

    Filter respondents by sex using the column SEX to create groups for Male (SEX = 1), Female (SEX = 2), and Total (both sexes).
  4. 4
    Apply the survey weight column PWGTP to weight each respondent’s data.
  5. 5
    Calculate the weighted share of adults in each income group category by sex.
  6. 6
    Present the results as a stacked bar chart showing the distribution of income groups by sex for adults aged 65 or older.
