Calculation Methodology

    Filter the dataset to include individuals aged 65 or older using the column AGEP.
  2. 2
    Derive income group categories from the columns RETP and SSP:
  3. 3
    - Retirement Income Only where RETP > 0 and SSP = 0,
  4. 4
    - Social Security Income Only where RETP = 0 and SSP > 0,
  5. 5
    - Both Retirement and Social Security Income where RETP > 0 and SSP > 0,
  6. 6
    - Neither Retirement nor Social Security Income where RETP = 0 and SSP = 0.
  7. 7
    Apply the poverty level filter using the column POVPIP to separate groups below 200% FPL and above 200% FPL.
  8. 8
    Use the column STATE to segment data by state for aggregation.
  9. 9
    Apply the weight column PWGTP to weight individual records in the calculation.
  10. 10
    Calculate the weighted share of adults in each income group category by state and poverty level for the stacked bar chart visualization.
