Calculation Methodology
- 1Select individuals aged 18 and older using the
AGEPcolumn with a filter conditionAGEP >= 18. - 2Derive age groups from the
AGEPcolumn using bins: 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+, corresponding to labels 1 through 6. - 3Identify federal poverty levels using the
POVPIPcolumn, categorized as <100% FPL, 100-199% FPL, 200-399% FPL, and 400%+ FPL based on specified value ranges. - 4Apply the weight column
PWGTPto weight individual records for accurate population representation. - 5Filter data by each age group label from the derived bins to calculate poverty level shares within each age group.
- 6Aggregate weighted counts by
STATEand poverty level categories to produce the stacked bar chart showing the share of population by federal poverty level and age group.
