Calculation Methodology
- 1Select records from the ACS dataset using the columns
AGEP,RETP,SSP,FS,TYPEHUGQ,WAGP,STATE, andPWGTP. - 2Derive age groups from
AGEPby binning into ranges: 18-34, 35-49, 50-64, 65-79, and 80+, corresponding to labels Age 18-34, Age 35-49, Age 50-64, Age 65-79, and Age 80+. - 3Identify Public Benefits recipients where
FS=1andTYPEHUGQ=1. - 4Identify Social Security recipients where
SSP > 0. - 5Identify Retirement Income recipients where
RETP > 0. - 6Identify Earnings from Work recipients where
WAGP > 0. - 7Calculate weighted counts for each income source category by age group using the weight column
PWGTP. - 8Aggregate the weighted counts by
AGEPbins to produce the stacked bar chart showing the age distribution of income sources.
