Calculation Methodology
- 1Select records from the ACS dataset using the columns
AGEP,STATE,RAC1P,HISP,SEX,POVPIP,LANX,LANP,CIT,MAR,SCHL,DIS,FS,TYPEHUGQ,SSIP,PAP,SSP,RETP, andWAGP. - 2Derive age groups from the
AGEPcolumn by binning ages into ranges: 18-34, 35-49, 50-64, 65-79, and 80+, corresponding to labels Age 18-34, Age 35-49, Age 50-64, Age 65-79, and Age 80+. - 3Identify income source categories by applying filters on the columns:
SSPfor Social Security (values > 0),RETPfor Retirement Income (values > 0), combinedSSIP,PAP,FS, andTYPEHUGQfor Public Benefits (specific conditions met), andWAGPfor Earnings from Work (values > 0). - 4Apply the weight column
PWGTPto each record to account for survey sampling design. - 5Aggregate weighted counts by
AGEPage groups and income source categories to calculate the distribution of income sources across age groups. - 6Present the results as a stacked bar chart showing the share of each income source category within each age group.
