Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
Select respondents aged 65 or older using the HHLDRAGEP column, where values are binned into 65-80 (up to 64.99 to 80.99) and 81+ (81 and above).
  2. 2
Filter data by TENURE to separate housing tenure into Owned with mortgage (TENURE=1), Home Owned Without Mortgage (TENURE=2), and Rented (TENURE=3).
  3. 3
Use the NP column to categorize household size, where NP=1 means one-person household, NP=2 means two persons, and NP=3+ means three or more persons.
  4. 4
Exclude records with Unspecified household types from the analysis.
  5. 5
Apply the weight column PWGTP to calculate weighted shares of householders with income below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) or the Elder Index in their area.
  6. 6
Aggregate the weighted data by HOUSEHOLD_TYPE and TENURE to produce grouped and stacked bar chart values showing the share of householders by household size and housing tenure.
