Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
Select records where HHLDRAGEP is 60 or older to focus on adults age 60 or older.
  2. 2
Filter data by HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP to separate Homeowner with mortgage (HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP=1), Homeowner, no mortgage (HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP=2), and Renter (HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP=3) groups.
  3. 3
Use GRPIP and OCPIP columns to classify housing cost burden categories: spending less than 30%, 31%-49%, or 50% or more of income on housing costs.
  4. 4
Derive race and ethnicity categories from HHLDRRAC1P and HHLDRHISP columns according to specified mapping logic.
  5. 5
Apply the weight column WGTP to calculate weighted percentages for each race and housing cost burden category within owner/renter groups.
  6. 6
Aggregate the weighted results by RACE categories and housing cost burden groups to produce the grouped stacked bar chart distribution.
