Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
    Select records where HHLDRAGEP is 60 or older to focus on adults age 60 or older.
  2. 2
    Filter data by HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP to separate Homeowner with mortgage (HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP=1), Homeowner, no mortgage (HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP=2), and Renter (HOUSEHOLD_OWNERSHIP=3) groups.

    Use the columns GRPIP and OCPIP to classify housing cost burden categories: spending less than 30%, 31%-49%, or 50% or more of income on housing costs.
  4. 4
    Apply the weight column WGTP to weight each record for representativeness.
  5. 5
    Aggregate weighted counts by RACE categories to create grouped data for each owner/renter status.
  6. 6
    Calculate the percentage distribution of housing cost burden categories within each race group and owner/renter status for the final grouped stacked bar chart.
