Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
Select data from the ACS dataset where TEN equals '2' to include only renter-occupied households.
  2. 2
Derive age_groups from the AGEP column by binning ages into 60-69, 70-79, and 80+ categories.
  3. 3
Filter data by SEX to separate groups into Female (SEX=2), Male (SEX=1), and Total (both sexes).
  4. 4
Derive household composition categories from the NP column, where NP=1 means Lives Alone, NP=2 means Lives With One Other, and NP=3+ means Lives With 2+ Others.
  5. 5
Apply the weight column PWGTP to calculate weighted counts for each combination of age_groups, SEX, and household composition.
  6. 6
Aggregate the weighted counts by age_groups and SEX to produce the share of population age 60 or older living alone or with others, segmented by age and sex.
