Calculation Methodology
- 1Select data from the ACS dataset where
TENequals '2' to include only renter-occupied households. - 2Derive age_groups from the
AGEPcolumn by binning ages into 60-69, 70-79, and 80+ categories. - 3Filter data by
SEXto separate groups into Female (SEX=2), Male (SEX=1), and Total (both sexes). - 4Derive household composition categories from the
NPcolumn, whereNP=1means Lives Alone,NP=2means Lives With One Other, andNP=3+means Lives With 2+ Others. - 5Apply the weight column
PWGTPto calculate weighted counts for each combination of age_groups,SEX, and household composition. - 6Aggregate the weighted counts by age_groups and
SEXto produce the share of population age 60 or older living alone or with others, segmented by age and sex.
