Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
Select records from the dataset where TEN equals '2' to include only renter-occupied housing units.
  2. 2
Use the columns AGEP, SEX, and NP to identify age, sex, and household size of individuals.
  3. 3
Derive age groups from AGEP using bins: 60-69, 70-79, and 80+, corresponding to Age 60-69, Age 70-79, and Age 80+.
  4. 4
Derive household categories from NP using bins: 1 person (Lives Alone), 2 persons (Lives With One Other), and 3 or more persons (Lives With 2+ Others).
  5. 5
Apply the weight column PWGTP to calculate weighted counts for each combination of age group, sex (SEX), and household size category.
  6. 6
Aggregate the weighted counts by AGEP age groups and SEX categories to produce the share of population age 60 or older living alone or with others, segmented by age and sex.
