Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
Select records from the dataset using the columns AGEP, STATE, and health insurance coverage indicators HINS1, HINS3, HINS4, HINS5, HINS6, HINS7, HICOV, and the helper column other_coverage_helper.
  2. 2
Derive age groups from the AGEP column by binning ages into three categories: 18-49, 50-64, and 65+.
  3. 3
Apply filters for each health coverage type based on the corresponding column values equal to '1' for coverage presence, except for Uninsured where HICOV equals '2', and for Other coverage where other_coverage_helper equals '1'.
  4. 4
Use the weight column PWGTP to weight each record in the analysis.
  5. 5
Aggregate the weighted counts by the derived age groups to calculate the distribution of each health care coverage source.
  6. 6
Present the results as a stacked bar chart showing the share of each health insurance program across the age groups.
