Calculation Methodology
- 1Select records from the dataset where
AGEPis 60 or older. - 2Derive age groups from
AGEPusing these bins: 60-69, 70-79, and 80+, corresponding toAGEPranges 60-69.99, 70-79.99, and 80+. - 3Identify disability status using the
DDRSandDOUTcolumns, where difficulty dressing or bathing (self-care difficulty) and difficulty doing errands alone (independent living difficulty) are indicated by specific values in these columns. - 4Apply the weight column
PWGTPto each record to account for survey sampling design. - 5Aggregate weighted counts by age groups and disability status to calculate the share of the population reporting these difficulties.
- 6Present the results as a stacked bar chart showing disability shares across the age groups 60-69, 70-79, and 80+.
