Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
    Select respondents aged 65 or older using the AGEP column with the condition AGEP >= 65.
  2. 2
    Filter respondents by race using the RAC1P and HISP columns according to the race categories: Asian Only, Black or African American Only, Hispanic or Latino (Any Race), White Only, Other Single Race, and Multiple Races.
  3. 3
    Identify cognitive difficulty status using the DREM column, excluding the Unspecified category where DREM = 2.
  4. 4
    Apply the original weight column PWGTP to weight the responses.
  5. 5
    Aggregate weighted counts by STATE and race categories to calculate the share of adults aged 65+ with increased confusion or memory loss.
  6. 6
    Exclude respondents with Unspecified cognitive difficulty status from the final calculation.
