Calculation Methodology

    Select the AGEP and STATE columns from the dataset.
  2. 2
    Derive the population aged 60 or older by filtering AGEP values greater than or equal to 60.
  3. 3
    Use the PWGTP column as the weight for each record.
  4. 4
    Aggregate the weighted counts of individuals aged 60 or older by STATE.
  5. 5
    Aggregate the total weighted population by STATE using all AGEP values.
  6. 6
    Calculate the share of the population aged 60 or older in each STATE by dividing the weighted count of individuals aged 60+ by the total weighted population.
