Calculation Methodology
- 1Filter the dataset to include only records where
HHLDRAGEPis 65 or older. - 2Derive household size categories from
NP, whereNP=1means one-person household (living alone),NP=2means two persons, andNP=3+means three or more persons. Select only households withNP=1(living alone). - 3Derive vehicle access categories from
VEH, whereVEH=0means no vehicles andVEH=1+means one or more vehicles. - 4Use the weight column
WGTPto apply weights to each record for accurate representation. - 5Aggregate the weighted data by
ST(state) to calculate the share of adults age 65 or older living alone without a vehicle kept at home for their use. - 6Calculate the percentage of weighted households with no vehicles (
VEH=0) among all weighted one-person households (NP=1) aged 65 or older within each state.
