Calculation Methodology

  1. 1
Filter the dataset to include only records where R65 indicates the presence of a person aged 65 or older, using values 1 or 2.
  2. 2
Select households with one person using the NP column, where NP=1 means a single-person household.
  3. 3
Identify households without vehicles using the VEH column, where VEH=0 means no vehicles available.
  4. 4
Apply the weight column WGTP to each record to account for survey design and population representation.
  5. 5
Aggregate the weighted counts by ST to calculate state-level shares of single-person households aged 65 or older without vehicles.
  6. 6
Calculate the share as the weighted number of single-person households without vehicles divided by the total weighted number of single-person households aged 65 or older in each state.
