Calculation Methodology
- 1Filter the dataset to include only records where
R65indicates the presence of a person aged 65 or older, using values 1 or 2. - 2Select households with one person using the
NPcolumn, whereNP=1means a single-person household. - 3Identify households without vehicles using the
VEHcolumn, whereVEH=0means no vehicles available. - 4Apply the weight column
WGTPto each record to account for survey design and population representation. - 5Aggregate the weighted counts by
STto calculate state-level shares of single-person households aged 65 or older without vehicles. - 6Calculate the share as the weighted number of single-person households without vehicles divided by the total weighted number of single-person households aged 65 or older in each state.
